The Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, Police Officer Standards and Training Council’s Field Services Training Division is offering a one (1) day, training seminar on “Tactical Operations Liability – Legal, Policy, and Operations.”  The seminar will be presented by Attorney Eric Daigle of the Daigle Law Group.

This course is designed for all levels of law enforcement personnel – from patrol officers to executive leadership.  The training provides an in-depth legal analysis and practical interpretation of Use-of-Force law, with a special emphasis on the evolving standards surrounding less-lethal applications and Electronic Control Weapons (ECWs) such as TASER ® devices.

Through case studies, legal precedent, and national trends, this course equips attendees with a foundational understanding of the constitutional principles, civil liability exposure, and reporting requirements associated with Use-of-Force incidents.

Key Areas of Instruction:

• Legal foundation – Participants are introduced to key federal court decisions that directly impact tactical operations and establish legal standards surrounding Use-of-Force, planning, and deployment

• Policy Development – Instruction covers the critical policy components agencies should consider adopting to mitigate liability and support sound decision-making

• Operational Application – The course concludes with practical implementation strategies – demonstrating how to apply legal and policy principles in the field without compromising mission success or officer safety
