Full Description
The Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, Police Officer Standards and Training Council’s Field Services Training Division is providing a two (2) day seminar titled “Criminal Investigation” training.   The instructor for this class will be Lieutenant Joseph Pangaro (Ret) of Pangaro Training and Management.

Participants will understand the nature and scope of a crime scene, how to identify it, protect it, and how to manage the identification and recovery of evidence.  Participants will interact with a mock crime scene and role players portraying various actors’ investigators might encounter during a criminal investigation.  Participants will also be introduced to the concepts of identifying and processing latent crime scene fingerprints.

Practical skills will be developed in the areas of interview techniques, latent fingerprint processing, evidence recovery and documentation, effective report writing, courtroom testimony, and constitutional issues.

The audience for this course is patrol officers, detectives/investigators, and supervisors.  The program is conducted as a lecture and practical hands-on course.  Information is taught via PowerPoint, video clips, and interaction with a mock crime scene and role players.  A manual comprised of the course PowerPoint and other handout material will be provided to each participant.

Students successfully completing the course will receive Review Training Credit in the following areas: Area 502 Crime Scene Processing 12 hours

Reporting Instructions
Tuition for this course is $200.  Lunch may be purchased at local restaurants.  The uniform Dress Code for POST In-Service training (General Notice 23-02) will be in effect.  We ask that all training supervisors inform assigned personnel that they are required to dress accordingly.

The training is scheduled from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. daily at the Connecticut Police Academy, 285 Preston Avenue, Meriden, 06450.
