Full Description
The Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, Police Officer Standards and Training Council’s Field Services Training Division in partnership with the Division of Criminal Justice (DCJ) is providing a four (4) day seminar titled “Comprehensive Sexual Assault Investigation School.”

This course is designed for all law enforcement officers from the Patrol Officer to Detective to supervisors of sexual assault investigations.  The course will break down the investigative process from initial victim contact through arrest in a linear and comprehensive manner with a law enforcement investigator focused lens.  A comprehensive agenda will be distributed.  Topics, broadly, to be covered will include:

• Comprehensive victim intake
• Trauma informed police interactions
• Interviewing the suspect
• Investigative foundations
• Evidence identification
• Search warrants
• Forensic interviews
• Report writing and documentation
• Confidential records
• Charging considerations
• Post arrest

Students successfully completing the course will receive 26 hours Review Training Credit in the following areas:
• Area 204 CT Criminal Law           1 hour
• Area 208 Search Warrant Preparation 1 hour
• Area 206 Laws of Evidence         1 hour
• Area 212 Courtroom Demeanor 1 hour
• Area 409 Victim/Witness Advocacy 2 hours
• Area 512 Sexual Assault/Rape Crisi      16 hours
• Area 514A Human Trafficking 1 hour
• Area 518 Chile Abuse/Neglect        3 hours

Reporting Instructions
There is no tuition for this course. Lunch may be purchased at local restaurants. The uniform Dress Code for POST In-Service training (General Notice 23-02) will be in effect. We ask that all training supervisors inform assigned personnel that they are required to dress accordingly.
